A characteristic feature of Mu metal is its very high magnetic permeability, making the material ideally suited as shielding against magnetic fields. Mu metal is a nickel-iron alloy with residual copper and molybdenum. The composition depends on the area of application, for example, low-frequency or high-frequency magnetic shielding.
Applications can be found in so-called Zero Gauss chambers or shielding of sensitive sensors and equipment as applied in the semiconductor industry, medical and military applications.
Magnetic Shield is a manufacturer of Mu metal in various grades, by shape and size. Examples include sheet material in various thicknesses, as wire for woven cable shielding, foils, tapes but also semi-finished products such as deep-drawn cans for transformers.
Magnetic Shield complies with international standards such as ASTM-A-753 Alloy 4, UNS N14080, DIN IEC 404, DIN 17745 and specific military specifications such as MIL-EN-14411
