EMC shielding at component level is generally done with shielding cans. These are available in a wide variety as standard components.
But what if there is no suitable solution? A customer-specific design can be considered. The big disadvantage of this, however, is the tooling costs that cannot be amortized over small quantities.
Tecan can use precision etching to make EMC shielding without the need for specific hard tooling. Even high complexity does not affect start-up costs. Etching is a subtractive process, based on photolithography and acid etching, that is ideal for producing precision metal parts in both prototypes and large quantities.
A range of ferrous and non-ferrous metal metals are possible to cover various frequencies. Once all profiling is complete, the plating can also cover the machined edges of the profile and fully protect it. The result is a burr- and stress-free product.
