Servometer has a wide range of standard bellows available with different platings, composed of various materials of choice and optionally with flanges that can be clamped, soldered or screwed.
Bellows are used between parts of equipment, where a medium is transported from one part to another. This can be a gas or liquid where the expansion, based on temperature or pressure, can be mechanically compensated by the flexible construction of bellows.
Gold plating is used in this application for several reasons:
- Corrosion resistance:
Gold is a very stable and non-reactive metal, with high resistance to corrosion and oxidation - Low contact resistance:
gold has low electrical resistance, which reduces electrical resistance between machine parts to ensure conductivity and signal transmission
A second application of gold-plated bellows is to create a flexible contact like a spring-loaded contact pin. Wear resistance and low contact resistance are the most important aspects here.
Also, bellows contacts can absorb shock and vibration in microstructures. And if filled with gas, to achieve specific damping in addition to perfect electrical contact.
