Electronic equipment must have a certain immunity to electrostatic discharge, tested according to the international standard IEC 61000-4-2. The German equipment manufacturer Schlöder has a series of programmable ESD simulators guns, which can be used both on battery and mains:
SESD 216: 16.5kV air and 10kV contact discharge
SESD 230: 30kV air and contact discharge
SESD 30000: 30kV air and contact discharge, variable discharge networks, suitable for ISO10605, MIL-STD, etc.
Depending on the product to be tested and the test setup, there are two test methods: air discharge and contact discharge.
Air contact tests are often performed on plastic housings.
The contact tests can only be carried out by actual contact, no test run takes place on oxidized or painted surfaces. Various discharge electrodes are included.
The SESD simulators Schlöder are safe tools and can also set test limits over the limits of the IEC standards.
