These transformers are used in measuring or detecting AC current with a galvanic separation. These ring core transformers are placed over the current conductor which is to be measured being the primary winding. The secondary winding has a high number of windings. The current in the secondary winding is proportional to the current through the primary winding and measured via a resistance load. There are two series available “ferrite core” and “tape wound core”.
